Concept and Narrative

What does northern soul mean to me?

• Before doing this project I had heard of northern soul but never knew anything about it or even what it was. After researching Northern Soul and the style of it I had a lot better understanding of what it was. Immediately after looking into it more I realized that to me Northern Soul was friendship and a way of expressing yourself. When looking at the images on Google of groups of people dancing together and also watching videos of the style of dance on Youtube I realized how unique the style of dance was and how happy it makes me people when doing it. To show this idea of friendship in our video and shoots we plan to get models that are friends to show clearly the friendship in this style. By getting two people that are genuinely friends it will be clear on camera the bond they share. 

Concept:

• To show friendship throughout by getting clips of them chatting, laughing, dancing together and walking around Sheffield and going inside of some of their favorite locations in Sheffield. Also including references to Northern Soul.

Narrative:

• Two friends walking around Sheffield wearing Northern Soul styled clothing and going into some of their favorite places.

• Looking through records at Record Junkee

References to Northern Soul:

• The clothing worn by the models
• The locations
• The backing music being played in our video
• The same style of makeup and hair
