Research for Location
Research for Location
When planning where we want to shoot the video and take photos places that relate to the northern soul style are places such as record stores, streets and brick walls. I researched locations to go before we go and take the images and begin to shoot the video. Below are places I found that would be good locations.
These are record shops close by in Sheffield that would be accessible. All of these are easy to get to as well as being popular in Sheffield.
I also looked into different housing streets to where the feel is quite old fashioned and traditional but quirky. These are different streets I found that could fit with our theme.
I also looked at Rosedale Road which has a not so traditional look to it although would fit to the vintage style which is northern soul. This could look effective for the overall look of the video we are trying to create.
Cross Burgess Street
On Cross Burgess Street there was this building which I think fits into the style we want to create. This would be a possibility when considering where we want to shoot the video. The graffiti on the door looks really effective and would work well. The brick and the wooden create a unique look making it aesthetically pleasing.
On Pinstone Street this building is quite vintage and also traditional which stood out to me. This would fit into the style of video we want to create. The small detailing of graffiti also adds a more modern effect to it which I like. The traditional look of the building makes it look vintage which work well with the clothes we plan to use for the shoot.
Barkers Pool
This is a small garden location at Barkers Pool. I thought the benches here would be good for some shots. As well as the green scenery complementing the overall look of the images or parts of the videos.
Burgess Street
This is very simple but this would ensure the attention was not taken away from the model and the clothing and the overall northern style. The graffiti is very minimalistic which I like against the black wall which has small detailing by the vertical and horizontal lines.
Burgess Street
I thought this would be a cool background for my images and with brightly colored clothing it would add a lot of contrast from the grey/black colored buildings and bright yellow/ purple colored top and trousers. I also liked how the streets leads to a focal point which would be a good place to place the model to ensure they are the main focus in the images.
Backfields
I thought all of this graffiti would fit in well with our theme and also make the images really interesting against the northern soul styled outfits the models would be wearing. I also thought the brick walls around the black doors would be good to get simple model shots, focusing more on the clothing they would be wearing.
Division Street
Outside of this cafe there are these benches. The style of them are quite retro which would fit in with the theme we are trying to create. I thought these would be useful to get images of the models chatting/laughing to show that friendship concept we are trying to present through our images and video.
Division Street
This wall is very original and I thought if the model stood in front of it in the middle the outside edges would create a nice frame to the images. The wall next to it adds contrast to it by the different coloring which I like. As well with the models wearing brightly colored clothing it would create an interesting image.
Division Street
This is a small vintage clothing shop. I thought this would be a good place to do some shots as all the clothing in the shop is so varied and some pieces relating to the northern soul style. The outside of the shop also is very unique with the pink outside. This would add contrast in our images against the different clothing items.
