Making the Short Film

For the short film me and Courtney wanted it to show friendship well as well as the Northern Soul style. To do this we filmed clips of the models laughing, looking in different shops together and them walking around Sheffield. When it came to editing the video we wanted it to be naturally flowing and not be overloaded with special effects etc. I put all our clips together and then started to arrange them in an order that made them look good and flow well. We cut some parts of the clips that we knew were not needed before deciding a song. To find a song we looked on You tube for Northern Soul styled songs. We listened to many before finding a one that was upbeat, not about love and would fit well with the actions the models were doing throughout the clips. The song is called 'If that's what you wanted' by Frankie Beverley. I put the song onto Premiere Pro and started playing it with the clips we had put together. We needed to cut the song down so we found parts of the song that worked well with certain clips and the parts left over I cut out. To blend the song together after cutting parts out I used an audio transition making it run smoothly and so people couldn't tell we had changed the original song. After having the song, we made sure we were happy with the order of the clips. I then went onto adding transitions between clips. I didn't want one between every clip and we liked how the video looked with the clips moving without something inbetween. However, when we did use transitions we used transitions such as cross dissolved and different lighting ones so that the screen would flash a color of light and the move onto the next clip. We wanted transitions that looked really natural and fitted with the feel of the video. After being happy with the transitions I added some brightness and contrast to some clips. This made the overall shot look more appealing and added more depth. We did speed some clips up with the speed/duration tool. This made clips shorted which meant the music would have to be moved around more however it still all worked really well. We added credits at the end of the short film of places that let us shoot in their shops and to our models. This completed the film. The film flows nicely and shows our concept of friendship well, displaying the Northern Soul scene within it.
