Northern Soul Film
Northern Soul Film
Director: Elaine Constantine
Story line:
The film is about a youth centre in the 70's that changes a generation by Northern Soul. The film is uplifting and about two boys that have a passion for Northern Soul music that want to share it and make it more accepted. They dream of going to America to find rare records to help them become DJ's doing Northern Soul music. The two friends face drug abuse, violence and rivalry against people that don't accept the unique style that is Northern Soul.
Initial thoughts:
The film is set in Lancashire in 1974. When watching the Netflix film Northern Soul it is very clear it is initially about friendship and Northern Soul giving someone a sense of belonging. The main character in the film at the beginning starts with no friends and from Northern Soul gains friends as well as more confidence as people start to accept him for him. This gives him a way of expressing himself and a way of being a unique individual. It shows Northern Soul to be a style that made a lot of people feel safe and secure within themselves. The difference Northern Soul made to people is very clear to see through this film and makes this era appear to have something that is missing from today's society. The film is very uplifting and shows someones journey and the impact Northern Soul has had on them well. It is clear why Northern Soul is a style that is missed by many.Trailer:
